Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been in practice?

Over three decades!

I received my Master's degree in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago in 1978 and have been in full time practice ever since.

My private practice opened in 1983.

How much does counseling cost?

Please Call (641) 423-4724 for rates.

Insurance co-pay, coinsurance or deductible is due at time of session. Any balance not paid by your insurance is due within 30 days of date of session.

A 5% discount is available for people paying in full at the time of the session.

How does counseling work?

Counseling begins with an initial meeting to gather information and history in order to develop a plan to meet each individual and/or family's needs.

Counseling may include individual or family sessions.

How long does counseling last?

Sessions typically last 60 minutes.

The number of sessions varies according to the issues and time you need to achieve a successful resolution.

How many counseling sessions will I need?

You may only need one or two sessions or you may need more.

We'll work together to schedule your sessions based on your specific needs.

Do you do therapy with children?

I help children under 18 in conjunction with their parents.

In my experience, the most effective way to treat an issue with a child is to work with the parents who are then able to deal with the issue successfully.

How do you ensure my privacy?

We go to great lengths to ensure the privacy of my clients both formally and informally.

Nothing concerning your sessions can be released without your written permission.

As my office is a private practice, we are not affiliated with - or a part of - any other group or agency.

What if I have to cancel my counseling session?

Missed appointments or appointments not cancelled in an appropriate amount of time are a lost opportunity for us to help another patient. We ask that you make every effort to keep your scheduled appointment and to arrive on time.

We ask that you give us 24 hours notice of cancellation or reschedule.

We do understand there may be circumstances when you may be unable to keep your appointment or cancel in a timely fashion. If this happens, please call and discuss this with office staff as soon as possible.

It is our policy to charge for all missed appointments or appointments that are not cancelled and/or rescheduled 24 hours prior to the appointment time.

Will my insurance company pay for counseling?

Everyone's insurance policy s different.

Check with your company's HR department or call your insurance carrier's customer service representative to verify coverage of outpatient mental health.

Do You Accept Insurance?

We have worked with over 50 insurance companies and will be happy to file insurance claims for you.
